According to the latest ESI data released by Clarivate Analytics on September 14, 2018, the material science discipline of our school has entered into ESI top 1% globally, becoming another ESI Top 1% discipline together with the chemistry and engineering, which marks a new breakthrough in the building of ESI disciplines of our school, and has made new contributions to the construction of high-level disciplines in Henan Province as well. At present, we have three ESI Top 1% disciplines, and the number of chosen subjects ranked 5th in all the normal universities nationwide and 2nd across all the universities in Henan (tied).

Essential Science Indicators (ESI) is a basic analytical evaluation tool for measuring scientific research performance and tracking scientific development trends in the international arena. It is also recognized globally as an evaluation indicator for the academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, countries and regions. Covered 22 subjects and is updated every two months (single month update). The ESI subject rankings reflect the international level of that discipline, and an ESI Top 1% discipline is often considered “international high-level disciplines”.

This ESI data cover time lasts from January 1st, 2008 to June 30th, 2018. In the field of materials science, 829 institutions worldwide entered into the top 1% ESI, and our school ranked the 795th.
